How to put on your compression socks

A step-by-step routine that makes donning your socks quick and easy.

Step by step

  1. Put your socks on first thing in the morning, when swelling is lowest.
  2. Reach inside the sock and pinch the heel, then turn it inside-out down to the heel.
  3. Slip your foot in and position the heel correctly.
  4. Gradually roll and smooth the fabric up your leg — never yank the top band.
  5. Smooth out any wrinkles for even compression.

Helpful tips

  • Rubber gloves improve grip and protect the fabric.
  • A donning aid makes the job much easier if you have limited mobility.
  • Apply moisturiser at night, not in the morning, so skin isn't slippery.
